Ali Banisadr

Ali Banisadr creates richly layered paintings and prints that exist between abstraction and figuration, inviting viewers to discover shifting forms, figures, and landscapes within dynamic compositions. Influenced by memory, mythology, history, and music, his work is shaped in part by synesthesia, resulting in paintings that feel both spontaneous and deeply immersive.
After emigrating to the United States as a child, Banisadr earned degrees from the School of Visual Arts and the New York Academy of Art. His work has been exhibited internationally and is included in the collections of major institutions including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the British Museum, and the Centre Pompidou. Through both 2D and 3D media, he continues to explore the fluid relationship between memory, perception, and the human experience.

This etching edition was created in collaboration with Ali Banisadr, commissioned by the Buffalo AKG Art Museum and published by Cristea Roberts Gallery. The print debuted as part of Temple of the Mind, an exhibition at the Buffalo AKG Art Museum co-curated by the artist and Holly E. Hughes, where it is presented alongside Banisadr's work in dialogue with works from the museum’s collection. This project reflects our ongoing commitment to collaborating with artists to realize technically ambitious original etching editions.
