Mirabo Press is pleased to announce the opening of Broadway is Closed, an exhibition of photographic prints by Alex Cassetti.

Alex Cassetti photographed the streets of Times Square for two years until Broadway was shut down in March 2020. During this time, working as a ticket salesman, he would bring his camera on rainy days to photograph the changing reflections of illuminated billboards on the street. Cassetti challenged himself every time it rained to make abstract images of one of the most photographed places on Earth.

During the pandemic lockdown, the Times Square reflection images were sent out to friends as double-sided postcards. This solo show in the mail was accompanied by an artist statement and a short description of the work. For Cassetti, the project became a way to remember a life working on Broadway prior to all the theaters closing.

Cassetti worked with Mirabo Press for a semester in 2022. It was there he was inspired to revisit his Times Square work during a CMYK workshop with Mizin Shin. The process of screen printing freed Cassetti to dive more deeply into abstraction - reinterpreting and reimagining his photographs into 16mm projections, screen prints, and large format transparent prints.

Please join us on Friday March 3rd from 6:00 – 9:00 pm to experience this new body of work from Alex Cassetti inspired by his time at Mirabo Press.
