Etching 101

Thursday, May 15th and Thursday, May 22nd, 2025 5:30 to 9:00 PM each session Mirabo Press will offer a 2-day introduction to etching and aquatint in mid-May. Bob Fleming will lead the 2-evening intensive workshops. The first evening will be devoted to learning about etching plates and how to make both line and tonal images on a copper plate. Participants will learn both hard ground and aquatint techniques in the course of putting their own image onto a plate for printing. The second evening will focus primarily on ink, paper preparation, inking and wiping the plates, and printing the plates. There will be time to finish up any work from the first session before printing. Spots: LIMITED TO 4 PEOPLE. No prior experience is required. Attendees must be able to make it to both sessions. (Additional information will be provided to those who register relating to the size of the plates and other suggestions for preparation before the workshop.) Materials: All materials and supplies are included in the program fee. We will provide an etching plate to each participant. While people can bring their own tools and paper, we will provide tools. Cost: $250 per person. Participants will get a discount for 1:1 Mirabo sessions for the following year.
